With the help of Greenergy Data Centers, SEB increased the accessibility and reliability of digital banking services

SEB made an important change in their IT infrastructure and is now using the biggest and most modern data center of the Baltics to provide clients a better service. The aim of this move was to modernise the IT architecture – the foundation – of the bank, which the bank systems accessible online and on the phone rely on. For clients, it means increased reliability.

‘This step is meant to strengthen the everyday accessibility of banking services, which makes lives easier for both merchants and consumers. Bank services are accessible to our customers if the IT devices supporting them are being held securely and reliably and well connected with server rooms located all over the Baltics,’ Head of Product Development and Technology at SEB, Andrus Tamm, explained the move to the data center of Greenergy Data Centers. In SEB, the IT infrastructure that services the Baltics is divided between various data centers. With the addition of Greenergy Data Centers, an older location was replaced, which will conclusively contribute to future-proofing.

The cooperation of SEB with the biggest data center of the Baltics started already before the construction of the building. ‘This is one of the reasons why the bar was set so high. Estonia did not merely need a new data center, but a complex that would meet the highest international standards and support the development of local companies and provide security,’ explained Tõnu Grünberg, CEO of Greenergy Data Centers.

From the start, the planning and construction of the only data center in the Baltics and Finland that was built and certified according to EN 50600 standard took into account the strict requirements of the financial sector for security, reliability, and energy efficiency. It is also illustrated by the high fences and dozens of cameras around the data center, as well as constant armed surveillance and biometric identification inside the building. SEB, in turn, has added an extra layer of security to it. Duplicated electricity and cooling systems help avoid interruptions in the operation of the servers that support bank services. Additionally, the first large-scale data center in Estonia was built aiming for the lowest possible ecological footprint.

‘We perfectly understand that people expect 24-hour accessibility. Their bank must be constantly online and the deployment of a new data center is the next step in ensuring that,’ Tamm added.

Greenergy Data Centers is the largest, most secure, and most energy-efficient data center in the Baltics. The first building of the data center is the size of two football pitches and the electrical connections of the center could supply the average Estonian city.

The construction of the Greenergy Data Centers near Tallinn was financed by the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund. One of the investors in the fund is, among others, the Estonian state.
