For cleaner air: Zone moves to a green data Center

Estonia's largest domain and web hosting service provider, Zone, has begun migrating its infrastructure to Greenergy Data Centers—the most modern and energy-efficient data center in the Baltic region. This move will significantly reduce the ecological footprint of hundreds of thousands of internet users.

"As Estonians, we can be proud that we breathe some of the cleanest air in the world today, but we must strive to keep it that way," said Ardi Jürgens, Head of Development at Zone. According to a 2023 study by the Swiss environmental organization IQAir, Estonia is one of seven countries worldwide with the planet's purest air. "By relocating our equipment fleet to an energy-efficient and green-powered data center, we help reduce the environmental impact of our operations. This means every user of our services contributes to a cleaner future and cleaner air," added Jürgens.

Over its 25 years of operation, Zone has become a leader in the field, influencing a significant part of society with its choices. "The energy consumption of our equipment fleet, consisting of nearly a thousand active devices, is unfortunately colossal. However, transitioning to green energy and higher energy efficiency significantly reduces our ecological footprint," Jürgens noted.

Kert Evert, CEO of Greenergy Data Centers, emphasized that their data center uses only renewable energy. "Energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy are integral parts of a modern data center. We have created an environment where companies like Zone can offer services to their hundreds of thousands of clients and the millions of users of their websites that are both reliable and environmentally friendly," said Evert.

In addition to reducing environmental impacts, adopting the Greenergy data center helps Zone enhance the reliability and security of its services. "The changed security environment and the European Union's directives on digital services and cybersecurity require companies to act responsibly and manage risks more consciously. Our cooperation with Greenergy allows us to meet these requirements and offer clients even greater assurance," remarked Jürgens.

The collaboration between Zone and Greenergy strengthens the foundation of operational continuity for the entire society. Every user of Zone's services can be confident that their websites and services operate on secure infrastructure that contributes to environmental preservation.
